Mexico City Police Chase and Apprehend Four Suspects in 200,000-Peso Robbery

On Tuesday, a violent assault in the Barrio Zapotla neighborhood, Iztacalco borough, triggered all security protocols. Upon arrival, police from the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) found the victim, who recounted that a man had threatened him with a firearm to take 200,000 pesos in cash, then fled on a black motorcycle. Using the suspects' description, operators from the C2 Norte command center employed the video replay system to track their escape. During their flight, they lost control of their car, crashing into a curb, a post, and another parked vehicle in the Agrícola Pantitlán neighborhood. The 'virtual cordon' allowed them to track their route in real-time along avenues such as Francisco del Paso y Troncoso and Iztaccíhuatl. When police officers intercepted them on Rojo Gómez and Ignacio Zaragoza streets, the suspects attempted to flee. Cameras captured how the two men abandoned the motorcycle in the streets of the Barrio los Reyes neighborhood and got into a blue car. What began with shots fired in a street in Iztacalco ended in a chase, a crash, and the recovery of the loot. The motorcycle and car used in the escape were also secured. The four suspects, aged 45, 27, 26, and 25, were finally apprehended. During the search, police secured the firearm used, a charger, three cartridges, a cell phone, and crucially, the entire 200,000 pesos stolen. The detainees were handed over to the Public Ministry agent. A cross-reference of information revealed that the 45-year-old detainee had a criminal record: he had entered the prison system in 2004 for aggravated robbery and had an investigation file for extortion in 2022. Monitor operators from the Command and Control Center (C2) Norte reported shots fired at the intersection of Plutarco Elías Calles and Congreso de la Unión avenues.
